Kathy Deain

October 31, 1951 - April 7, 2021







Kathy was born, October 31, 1951 in OKC, OK to Dale Leon Deain and the late Mary Martha (Novak) Deain. She passed Wednesday April 7, 2021 in her home in Norman, OK at the age of 69 years. Kathy and husband James “Jim” Mays were united in marriage on December 6, 1975 in Norman, OK. Kathy grew up in Norman, graduating from Norman High School, Class of 1969. Following high school, Kathy began a career in Banking, which she retired from as a Proof Operator in 2017. Kathy was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She spent countless hours attending sporting events all over the country and other school activities to support her children and grandchildren. Kathy was an avid fan of OU sports, OKC Thunder Basketball, and Baker Mayfield. Kathy was an exceptional bowler. In earlier years, Kathy traveled the country as a tournament bowler with her teammates and later settled into local bowling leagues with friends and family. In later years, She and Jim spent their time together at the ball fields watching their boys. That was simply “their place.” Kathy enjoyed mowing, baking, and judging the ongoing family peanut brittle competition. Kathy was a 25-year breast cancer survivor. She is believed to have had the first successful Stem Cell Transplant procedure for breast cancer in Oklahoma in 1995, and was deemed cancer free in 1996. She was a loyal Breast Cancer Awareness advocate and attended many social events and benefits. Kathy was beloved by everyone in her life for her infectious smile, dedication to her loved ones, and her toughness. Kathy’s memory will be cherished by her father Dale Deain of Hot Springs, AR; husband of 45 years, James A. Mays; son Jacob Mays and wife Brooke Mays of Washington, OK; son Zachary Mays and fiancé Kayla Kaiser of Noble OK; brother Dick Deain of Noble OK; sister Shirley Kinard of Mustang, OK; grandsons Jackson and Mason Mays of Washington, OK; and numerous other family members and friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her mother Mary Deain, brother-in-law Earl Kinard, and sister-in-law Cindy Deain. The family will receive friends Monday evening, April 12th, from 5-7PM at McMahan’s Funeral Home in Noble. Funeral Services for Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Mays will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Noble. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
